Hitchikers Guide Takes Centre Stage in Manchester

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy became an instant classic and a cult phenomenon after its debut as a radio series in 1978. Now you have the opportunity to see the new live show with some new Manchester friends.

It didn’t take long for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy to reach cult classic status. In fact, it became so as soon as its debut reached the airwaves way back in 1978.

After six books as well as a successful TV show and a movie, the sci-fi phenomenon takes centre stage once again but literally this time in the form of a stage production of the radio show.

It arrives in Manchester today and Social Circle will be heading to the Opera House to judge for ourselves whether or no the show will live up to expectations.

The show will feature original cast members who will be starring along with guest speakers who will be performing as “the book”. The speakers for the Manchester shows will be comedian Jon Culshaw and John Challis from Only Fools and Horses.

Arthur Dent, played by Simon Dent , will be reunited with fellow cast members who will be reprising their roles and acting out just some of the highlights from the entire series.

Dirk Mags directs and the show will feature a life-size Marvin the Paranoid Android who is fittingly made out of old radio equipment.

The show plans to appeal to newcomers of any age to Babe Fish, Vogons and the ‘whole generational mish mash’.

There are some smart parallels with daily life which ends the franchise by taking it back to its radio roots and is a great tribute to sci-fi legend, Douglas Adams. So come along and meet some new friends in Manchester for this fantastic revival.
