One of the country’s finest art collections in spectacular Victorian and contemporary surroundings. The gallery’s recent £35 million transformation has enabled the collection to be presented to visitors in imaginative new ways.
Their collection is made up of fine art and decorative art. They’re probably most famous for their Pre-Raphaelite paintings but all periods are covered, from ancient pottery to contemporary art.
Highlights include the aforementioned outstanding pre-Raphaelite paintings, craft and design and early 20thC British art. There is a wide range of events, from talks and tours to hands-on activities. Superb visitor facilities include 2 cafes and a large shop.
The gallery’s collections include more than 25,000 objects of art, craft and design. Only a fraction of these can be displayed at any one time. You can explore the collections in greater depth by using their online collections search or browse edited highlights chosen by staff and visitors.
