On 13th July at 9.30am Social Circle are embarking upon another of our spectacular walks and this time its the Hathersage Circular Walk
Stanage Edge is without doubt one of the most popular outdoor locations in England.
Many flock here, most to learn the basics of rock climbing.
This walk takes us from the popular village of Hathersage on country tracks to Stanage Edge and then along the top, past the adrenaline junkies, before returning to Hathersage through splendid peak district countryside lanes.
Some of the views during the walk are utterly beautiful so do hope for a clear day.
Details of the walk are as follows:
Length: 12 miles
Duration: 4.5hrs excluding stops
Difficulty level: 2/3
Transport: Car shares
The walk ascends gently along Burbage Brook and onto Stanage Moor, before a steep, but very short climb leads to Stanage Edge at the Cowper Stone trig pillar.
After traversing Stanage Edge for 2km, the walk descends gently into Hathersage Where we can stop for a well deserved cup of tea and maybe a slice of cake in one of the fantastic cafes.
We will then make our way back along the river Derwent, passing near Grindleford and then following Burbage brook uphill through Bole Hill woods,
up to the Longshaw estate and then back to the Fox House pub where we can reward ourselves with a pint or some delicious pub grub !
Kit list: hat, warm clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers, walking trousers walking boots as may be slippy tea flask.
Regular walking can…
fill you with energy and confidence
help you beat stress
make your heart fitter and strengthen your bones
help you keep your weight down
